The FAA Flying Club was at the Leesburg Airshow this past weekend and the event was spectacular! I flew the Club’s Piper Cherokee 235, N9397W, to Leesburg Airport on the morning of the airshow and Sam Bingham joined me.

Just west of KJYO on right base for runway 17.

Somehow we landed a prime spot on the flight line steps away from the terminal and where the airplanes participating in the airshow were staged. It was a perfect spot to set up our static display!

Sam and I were honored to help kick off the airshow by setting up the landing target and holding the wind flag for the Flying Circus skydivers that signaled the start of the airshow.

The show featured numerous static displays from the Commemorative Air Force Capital Wing to the Civil Air Patrol to just cool aircraft like the Cirrus jet that landed behind us earlier that morning.

And no airshow would be complete without some amazing aerobatics and amazingly fast aircraft!

But the highlight for me was seeing so many people enjoy the FAA Flying Club’s airplane! We talked to so many people who stopped by to see the plane, learn about the Club, and just chat. I got to see the joy of kids (young and old) sit in the cockpit while family members took pictures. Everyone loved our Piper Cherokee 235!

Special thanks to Sam for joining me and for allowing me to be a small part of the ground crew for the Flying Circus at the airshow.

The 2021 Leesburg Airshow was an awesome event and the FAA Flying Club was glad to be a small part of it! We hope to see everyone again next year!
